Question: I’ve got some space(1gb) on a web hotsing server. I’m trying to collaborate with people from different geographical locations. I was wondering if I could use this space to share and manage our code by installing svn or cvs in this space. This server has only ftp access..

    Sure you can. Google web hosting and see if you can use a svn or cvs.
